LVD HISTORY
In 1995, a group of people with historical interests from the St. Francisville and Baton Rouge areas began meeting once a week to learn historical dances dating primarily from the 1800's.
The group was interested in learning, performing and teaching these dances both to each other and to the public. They began by assisting with the running of balls and camp dances at area Civil War re-enactments.
As members of the group became more experienced, the dancers began performing at local events hosted by the LSU Rural Life Musem in Baton Rouge, the Audubon Pilgrimage in St. Francisville and various antibellum homes and parks in South Louisiana.
In 1999 the Louisiane Vintage Dancers group was formally organized. Each year since it's conception, the group has held a 19th Century fancy dress ball at the Old State Capital in downtown Baton Rouge.
All members of LVD participate in and perform at events on strictly volunteer basis. In addition to the events mentioned above, the group has more recently begun performing at both Rosedown and Oakley plantations in St. Francisville, as well as at Centenary College in Jackson, LA, and at the Port Hudson State Commemorative Area.
The group also makes itself available to provide perfomances and dance demonstrations at various public schools, civic activities and retirement homes in the Baton Rouge and St. Francisville areas.
